Ted Talks About Education

Ted Talks About Education

A TED talk is a short presentation that centres on a particular topic or subject. Recently, TED talks have proven to be a source of learning inspiration and to multiple people of different ages. It is a non-profit organisation whose target is to share ideas globally.

Some of these TED Talks that I have selected for this article are short, impactful speeches which are packed with insights from leaders in education. They're like bite-sized, potent shots of wisdom that can revolutionize the way you view learning.

The Magic of TED Talks

TED Talks have this magical ability to stir our thoughts and provoke our minds in ways few things can. They make complex ideas accessible and difficult topics engaging. They present ideas that we can all relate with most times which create long-lasting impacts in our lives. And when it comes to education, they offer a fresh perspective, challenging traditional norms and inspiring innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

A Few Gems To Start With

Sir Ken Robinson

One of my absolute favorites is Sir Ken Robinson's talk, "Do schools kill creativity?" He presents a compelling argument about how current education systems might be stifling creativity, and he does it with such wit and charm that you can't help but be captivated. He argues that children are educated out of their creativity and making mistakes tend to be the greatest thing to make. I personally side with him because children are mercilessly punished when they make mistakes in their exercises and as a way of avoiding being punished, they learn hard alright, but they do not make use of what they learned, the primary reason for learning then become "to avoid pain."

Rita Pierson

Then there's Rita Pierson's "Every kid needs a champion," a deeply moving piece that reminds us of the profound impact teachers can have on their students. It's a powerful call-to-action for every educator to become a mentor and a cheerleader for their students.

And let's not forget Ted Dintersmith's "Why schools should teach for the real world." This talk challenges the traditional, test-centered approach to education, advocating for a system that prepares students for real-world challenges. This talk aligns with what the Ghana Education System has set out to promote in the schools, however, the training, tools and materials needed to make this come to fruition seem to be forgotten.

The Future of Education

John Tsang's "The Future of Education" is another must-watch. He explores how we need to adapt our learning methods for a world increasingly dominated by intelligent machines. It's a fascinating glimpse into what the future of education could look like.

These TED talks will challenge your perspectives on education, and I highly recommend diving into the world of TED Talks. They are enlightening, thought-provoking, and might just change the way you think about learning and teaching. Remember, education isn't just about grades or degrees; it's about fostering curiosity, encouraging critical thinking, and nurturing a love for learning.
