Lessons Of The Week
When I reflect on the last week, I can say that I had some difficulties with my writing because I was unable to finish the majority of my important writing assignments. Nevertheless, I'm not giving up and plan to work on most of them this week. Still, I'm eager to impart some important knowledge and understanding that I discovered this past week.
Get to know someone before judging them
It is instinct or should I say, it is a human thing to assess someone and judge them without even making the effort to know them well. There are times that you may come out right but not entirely right about the behaviour of an individual. "Do not judge a book by its cover, unless you are a graphic designer. Anyway, the point here is that for you to stand in a good position to judge someone or make a concluding decision about someone, get to understand them, talk with them, and ask questions about how they behave in a certain way at this time. Using information passed down from somewhere about someone is not valid information enough for you to say you know someone. You never know a person until you "know" them. People are not always what they seem.
No procrastination!
A lot of us are not saints when it comes to how we utilize our time to get things done. It is the habit of delaying doing something. Sometimes you just choose to do something else. It is different from being lazy in the sense that you are pushing away from doing something but choosing to do something different. For instance, this week, I chose to watch movies instead of writing, I did a little writing but not as much as I wanted to. When you procrastinate, you leave out or ignore something important but unpleasant. That is not to suggest that I do not like writing, I love it, there are just times that you feel too sore to even type.
It can become serious when not checked, it can lead to unproductivity, missed deadlines, and eventually affect your goals. Being proactive is the opposite.
Some ways to overcome procrastination include:
- Know that you are procrastinating
- Planing-set a goal and a deadline and commit to these tasks
- Start Small
- Deal with distraction
- Finish the task before moving to the next in order of importance
Eliminating procrastination means paving the way for increased productivity and progress.
"Say what you mean and mean what you say"
The principle of "Say what you mean and mean what you say" covers the essence of clear and sincere communication, highlighting its profound significance in various aspects of life. This principle emphasizes the importance of articulating thoughts, intentions, and commitments with honesty and transparency. Do not say one thing while meaning something else while you think people will extract another meaning from it. People already have preconceived thoughts and ideas about you, unclear communication will only widen the mistrust they have for you. Avoid the ambiguity and use of a lot of metaphors. Say exactly what you mean.Ultimately, embracing this principle elevates the quality of interactions, promotes understanding, and contributes to the establishment of a culture grounded in open, meaningful communication.
