2. Read What Interests You:
You won’t enjoy what you don’t like. Back at the university, people knew me to be an avid reader so they expected big results from me academically, the contrary thing was that it was reading lecture notes, I loved burying myself in other disciplines like psychology geography, and science, I loved reading what I liked which did not concern my studies. Colleagues usually found me in the library and they probably thought I was engrossed in reading lecture slides or something about my course, I read those when necessary. That was because I didn’t like the idea of reading and getting examined, I wanted to read and know that I had discovered something.
- Make it a habit: Reading is a habit and can be nurtured. Make reading a luxurious part of your daily routine, a sacred ritual to nourish your mind and soul. Set aside 15 precious minutes each morning to indulge in the world of words, a gentle wake-up call to awaken your senses. You don’t have to read the entire day or read for hours; it may be 10- 15 minutes a day is fine. Some people read every morning or late at night. I read when I wake up or at 9 pm.
Setting aside time within the day will compel you to be committed to reading. You can complement your reading with something like taking snacks while listening to slow-focus instrumentals as a way of making it fun. You can even read while traveling. It will be easier if you have the book on your phone that is if you are scared that people will be staring at you. You have 24 hours in a day, and dedicating just a few minutes to crack open a book is a good way to nurture the habit of reading.
- Read for yourself: Don't read just because others do; read because you want to and aspire to be a better, more knowledgeable person. Let your love for reading be a personal aspiration, a burning passion to expand your knowledge and broaden your horizons.
Find joy in the journey and make it interactive: Remember that reading is a process, not a destination, and let reading become a lifelong source of pleasure and growth. Engage with the material by asking questions, reflecting on what you have read, and summarizing what you've read.
Comment and share your thoughts on ways that you think can or has helped you with your reading habit while growing. You can also share what your pet hates about reading. LOL
